Written by Dr. Meike Uhler of the Fertility Centers of Illinois    Thursday, 07 January 2010 15:03    PDF Print E-mail
With the beginning of the New Year, many couples will set their sights on personal goals, which for some may include starting or growing their family. Sadly, infertility affects one in six couples in the U.S. and both men and women equally, possibly making this a challenging task. However, there are many simple things couples can do together to help boost their conception odds and to start the New Year with a fresh outlook on their fertility journey.

A Couple’s Guide: Coping with Infertility During the Holidays

Written by Dr. Marie Davidson, Clinical Psychologist at the Fertility Centers of Illinois    Monday, 14 December 2009 00:00    PDF Print E-mail
The holidays are a special time of the year - time with family and friends, a parade of parties, excited children, exchanging gifts, and sharing festive meals. While the holiday season is a time of celebration and cheer, it can also be a time of stress and sadness for those coping with infertility. Many couples had hopes of celebrating the holiday season with their own new baby or with a pregnancy underway. Participating in holiday events that focus primarily on children can be a painful reminder of what has not yet happened for you.

Yoga off the Mat: How to Manage and Arrest the Stress Response

Written by Brenda Strong, Actress and Creator of Yoga4Fertility    Wednesday, 14 October 2009 00:00    PDF Print E-mail
Even for a Yoga teacher, life is stressful. This year has been rough for me. I went to my 93-year-old aunt's memorial in California, after a car had struck her while she was crossing the street.  In July, my mother-in-law passed away in Texas. It seems that between my own mother passing away in January, our house on its 17th month of a major remodel, my son starting high school, and dealing with numerous other difficult personal situations, I have been subject to a lot of emotional stress this year.

Fertility Insurance Coverage Update

Written by Melissa B. Brisman, Esq., Attorney-at-Law, Montvale, NJ    Thursday, 20 August 2009 13:24    PDF Print E-mail

Research into insurance coverage is a necessary part of many reproductive arrangements. Infertile individuals and couples may find that their insurance companies will cover some or all of the costs of the medical costs associated with diagnosing and treating infertility. Unfortunately, many others learn quickly that they will have to pay all medical costs out-of-pocket. In California, Deborah Dunn Yeager was suffering from infertility and sought treatment. She discovered that the insurance she had through her employer, Blue Cross of California, only paid up to $2,000 per year for half the cost of Ms. Yeager’s infertility treatments. Unable to achieve pregnancy without exceeding this $2,000 limit, Ms. Yeager sued the insurance company. She sought recovery of her out-of-pocket expenses for the infertility treatments that she received above the $2,000 annual limit and for her pain and suffering from losing her chance to bear a child.

How a bill becomes…a reality!

Written by Barb Collura, Executive Director, RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association    Monday, 03 August 2009 10:36    PDF Print E-mail

In June, infertility insurance coverage took another step toward reality when Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) introduced S. 1258, the Family Building Act of 2009. This bill, which is very similar to the House bill HR 697, the Family Building Act of 2009 which was introduced in the House of Representatives by Anthony Weiner (D-NY), is the first time an infertility insurance bill has been introduced in the Senate.
