FERTILITY BENEFITS: Normally 6 cycles of IUI and 6 cycles of IVF (or other ART procedures) unless a new cause of infertility is discovered and treated. In that case consideration is given to additional cycles. Unlimited prescription fertility drugs.
ADOPTION BENEFITS: $5,000 per adoption ($6,000 for special-needs adoption), no lifetime cap.
LEAVE: Different leave policies apply to staff and faculty. Staff: 8 weeks of paid short-term disability for staff birth moms, plus 1 paid week in accrued leave and 1-4 weeks of paid parental leave (70-100%, depending on years of service). Adoptive staff parents receive the same 1-4 weeks of paid parental leave and 1 week in accrued leave. All new staff parents can request unpaid extended leave of up to 1 year (not to exceed length of prior employment). Faculty leave policies differs from school to school at Harvard, but cannot fall below this minimum: Full-time faculty members (primary caregivers) for a new child (birth or adopted) get 1 semester complete teaching relief, or 2 semesters at half teaching load (both options at full pay). Faculty birth and adoptive moms get 8 weeks paid maternity leave and 12 weeks parental leave under FMLA, both of which usually run concurrent with teaching relief, but provide additional relief from other non-teaching duties.
