5. It’s very difficult to adopt a baby/infant; Most children who need homes are older.
There are a lot of babies in the United States and overseas who need homes. “It’s not impossible to adopt a newborn,” says Elizabeth Swire Falker, an adoption attorney and author of The Ultimate Insider’s Guide to Adoption (Warner Books 2006). “You have to be proactive, open, and flexible.” Domestic private adoption and adoption through the foster care system are both viable options for families who want infants. If you’re adopting internationally, it may be more difficult to bring home a baby under six months old because of the delay caused by having to work with the government of another country.
